Hillsboro Hops to start sixth season with new safety netting

The Hillsboro Hops held media day at Ron Tonkin Field on Thursday.

One of the biggest things this season is additional netting between the field and stands.

The team worked with the city to get the best netting you can get. It’s thin and dyed green and will extend to the end of the dugouts.

“We’re promoting, bring your kids out to the game, and if we’re promoting, bring your kids out to the game, it needs to be a safe environment,” said K.L. Wombacher, Hops’ president and general manager. “And we want people that sit above the dugout to feel as safe as the fans behind the net, so it was important for us to have more netting, have more protection, increase the safety, but we wanted to do it and maximize the experience.”

The Hops open its sixth season Friday night at Everett.
