Braves first baseman Kelly Johnson lined out to end the top of the sixth inning during Thursday’s game against the Nationals at Nationals Park. He broke his bat after making contact, and a sawed off part of his bat rocketed towards the crowd behind the Nationals’ dugout.

A grey seal found tangled up in netting on a beach has been returned to the sea by rescuers. The distressed seal was discovered with netting around its neck at Cruden Bay in Aberdeenshire on Tuesday. The Scottish SPCA was alerted and officers took him to a rescue centre where the animal was cut free.

GILL netting of beaches, the Great Sandy Strait and the Noosa and Mary rivers would be banned if ALP Wide Bay candidate Lucy Stanton has her way. Ms Stanton has called for net-free zones for the two rivers, along the Noosa north shore, Fraser Island, the Great Sandy Strait and the Noosa River lakes as a step towards World Heritage listing.

Award-winning Lake District attraction Treetop Nets has announced that it is branching out and work has now commenced to create a brand new high ropes adventure next to Lighwater Valley near Ripon, North Yorkshire. The new site is set to be 50% bigger than their original Lake District attraction and will use enough rope to run the entire length of Hadrian’s Wall.

Fans at Buffalo Bisons games this season will be able to enjoy their baseball with a more secure feeling, thanks to protective netting. The Bisons introduced some new ballpark and concession features at their annual “What’s New at Coca-Cola Field” media event Wednesday at the downtown ballpark. Among them was more protective netting extending from the present backstop to the end of each dugout to increase spectator safety from batted or thrown balls.

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – The Durham Bulls are making some improvements at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park after a fan was hurt by a foul ball last year. Officials said more safety netting will be installed Thursday afternoon at the athletic park. Minor League Baseball’s president endorsed the recommendations given by major league leaders last year.

In accordance with recommendations made by Major League Baseball, and in order to provide a friendlier fan environment, the Oklahoma City Dodgers will extend the safety netting behind home plate to cover most seats behind each dugout at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. “Fan safety is a top priority to our organization,” said OKC Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes.

Ryan Arnold, Pyap Produce, Loxton, South Australia is aiming to uphold a valuable Asian export market by lifting his output of premium quality fruit. As far as he is aware, the farm has become the only netted citrus orchard in the Riverland region. This will be their first season of fruit from under the nets and earlier indicators are showing several benefits.
